DINA SHAKER

Born & raised in the bustling city of Alexandria, Dina Shaker soaked the hustle & bustle of a country like Egypt. Her Studies began in Fine Arts at the Alexandrian University. Upon completion, Dina dabbled into interior design only to later decide to follow her passion & start a career in fashion. In 1999 she founded her first fashion brand “SPICY” which was one of the first companies locally to spearhead the 100% locally sourced & produced Egyptian brands that met international standards. SPICY went on to open several stores around greater Cairo. Deciding to take her experience to new levels, in 2011, Dina launched her signature label “Dina Shaker” which was quick to be picked up by some of the most prestigious boutiques in the region and greater Europe area.
Her fine arts background lives within all of her designs - be it modern art, architecture or culture, she always finds herself inspired by art. The label’s aesthetic can best be described as transitionary, asymmetric & oversized. All due to a well thought out plan to reflect her ideal customer: strong, self confident & fearless. The Dina Shaker woman is powerful, she stands out from the crowd & follows the beat of her own drums, but most importantly, she oozes confidence. Every collection is dedicated to these women; may we be them, may we know them & may we always support them!

MOHAMED GABER

Mohamed Gaber is a multidisciplinary designer and artist from Cairo, Egypt. He works in a wide range of creative disciplines including type design, web design, graphic design, live VJ generative art performance, and sound art. His main interest lies in the haptic nature of the production of typography as well as the technological, philosophical and historical aspects of it. While his work is driven by the values of free experimentation and perpetual learning, he draws his inspiration from a wide spectrum of sources, from the slightest variations of handwriting in government documents from the Cairo archives to variable fonts, from traditional calligraphy to quirky typefaces of signs and posters scattered across the city and its post-colonial ghettos where he was born and raised.  As early experiments, Gaber worked in 2006/2007 on producing a series of radical poster artworks under the name “G.A.S. -Graphics Against the Systems-” incorporating type and calligraphy into radical protest poster art, one of these artworks under the name of “Be with the revolution / كن مع الثورة” that he made in 2008, later on, became one of Egypt’s 2011 revolution and the “Arab Spring” visual icons. His work has been nominated for the Jameel Art Prize in 2013 and was awarded Best Arabic Display font from Granshan for the year 2016. His designs are featured on Google fonts and his artworks were exhibited in various cities between Cairo, Dubai, Berlin and recently performed in 2020 CTM Festival Berlin.
