Port-Said has always been famous for its unique architectural and cultural heritage, which continues to impact and shape its people to this day. The main character and narrator of the film is Mohamed Ghali, a Semsemya maker. Semsemya is a traditional Port-Saidian musical instrument, whose music plays an integral role in Port Said’s cultural heritage. Throughout the film, we see the city through Ghali’s eyes and come to understand his motive to preserve Port Said’s identity by introducing younger generations to the musical instrument. The second character is Mohamed Abd El Qader, a poet from Port-Said. His voice is heard at the opening scene of the film reciting a piece of his poetry, in which he is reminiscing about the city of Port-Said and the citizen’s relationship with the city.
