Q&A Following the Screening of “Sculpting in Time”

Film Director: Youssef Nasser graduated from the Higher Institute of Cinema in 2009 with a bachelor's degree in film and TV editing. The short documentary “Sculpting in Time'' received 3 awards: the first award being the Jury Award in the Festival of Arab Cinema in Paris in 2018, the second was awarded by the Oran International Arab Film Festival in Algeria in 2018 and the last award was the Best Short Documentary at the National Festival of Egyptian Cinema in 2018. Nasser also participated in the official selection of the Carthage Cinematic Days in Tunisia in 2017 as well as many other international and national festivals. He edited a number of short films, music videos and ads for social media, directed various independent short films, and worked as an assistant director in several Egyptian feature films. 

Visual Artist & Graphic Designer: Heba Helmi is a visual artist, graphic designer, potter and writer, who graduated from Helwan University with a degree in fine arts in 1994. Helmi worked as a graphic designer at Nagy Shaker’s studio from 1992 to 2000, obtained her master’s degree in art history in 2001 and was an assistant teacher in the art history department at Helwan University from 2002 to 2006. She was also a cover and book designer at Sharkyat Publishing House (2001-2008) and El Ain Publishing House (2016-2018). Her numerous works in the print and publishing domain as a graphic designer can be found in many institutions: Al Ahram Foundation, Merit, Al Marayat, Sefsafa, Ibn Roshed Publishing Houses and the Woman and Memory Association. In addition, she was the author of “Bent Fy Hakyba” as well as the author and layout designer of “Gowayya Shaheed,” documenting the street art of the Egyptian revolution.

Moderator: Nasser Abdel Moneim is a theatre director who held various important positions in the Egyptian Ministry of Culture since 1986: the President of the National Center for Theater, Music and Folklore and the Egyptian National Theater Festival, the General Manager of Al-Ghad Theater, and the Head of the Cultural Production Affairs Sector. Abdel Moneim directed 50 plays for different troupes in the National Theatre and the private cultural sectors, and participated with his plays in various festivals locally and internationally. He received numerous awards, most notably the HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award for the best Arab show in 2018 for his play “The Ring and the Bracelet,” which was also awarded the State Award for Excellence in Arts (2008) and the Best Director Award from the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theater (1996). Abdel Moneim participated in the judging committees of a number of festivals, competitions and theater prizes.
