Salma Serry is a food studies researcher, awarded filmmaker and founder of Sufra Archive, a social platform dedicated to the modern food history of Southwest Asia and North Africa. In 2020, she launched an archival project that documents the largest collection of +500 historical Arabic cookbooks and culinary ephemera from the region. She was recently commissioned research projects by Art Jameel (Dubai), Hayy Jameel (Jeddah), the Arab Council for Social Sciences (Beirut), and the Islamic Biennial in Jeddah. She also is an awardee of the prestigious Arab Fund for Arts and Culture and the ACSS grant for her ongoing project that documents 100 years of SWANA’s culinary history as it appears in pop culture, literature, ephemera, and film.
