Chair Times: A History of Seating
The film leads its audience through a ‘sea of chairs’. Revealed are 125 objects, dating as far back as 1807 to the latest 3D printed designs, arranged in the order of their production years and forming a timeline of modern seating design in the Vitra Schaudepot. Serving as a guide on this journey into the past of seating design is Rolf Fehlbaum, Chairman Emeritus of Vitra. However, which objects do you think would intrigue professionals in the design field the most? Some of the distinguished pioneers and experts know the answer: designer Hella Jongerius, the architect and collector Arthur Rüegg, architect David Chipperfield, Peter Noever as Director Emeritus of MAK Vienna/Los Angeles, and Vitra Design Museum’s director Mateo Kries, curator Amelie Klein as well as collection curator Serge Mauduit.
