The film follows urban planner Jan Inghe (1944-2005) who had a leading role in transforming the modern city, from planning with detached zones thru postmodernism to the environmentally concerned city around the turn of the century. His final work, Hammarby sjöstad in Stockholm, Sweden, has been a benchmark for urbanism all over the world. With parallel examples from other cities throughout Scandinavia, but also China, the vision of the city today is exposed and discussed.
